auffach in summer
Auffach is situated at the end of the valley the Wildschonau.
In earlier days there was a flourishing wood production and from there the name
Auffach has been derived, diverted from the German word "auffachen"
which means collecting. Via the brook wood was transported from e.g. the Schönanger
to Auffach and here it was collected and made ready for further transport. During
the summer you can take some splendid walks in Auffach (875 metres high) as
well as on the slightly sloping walking paths in e.g. the Schönanger and
on the steep slopes of the Lamperberg. In total you can go for 8 mountain walks
of which the Big Beil is the highest at 2309 metres.
All the walks are clearly indicated, but it would be advisable to obtain a good
walking map (to be obtained at e.g. the wood-museum).The Schatzberg you may
adventure by means of the gondola, the ski-lift is in working from early June
till the beginning of October from 9-12 and from 13.00 till 17.00 hours. From
the Schatzberg you can descend via the top down the back and then via the Talsalm
back to Aauffach. This walk lasts about 4 hours. Besides walking on your own
you can also walk under the supervision of a guide, they consist of special
theme mountain walks, more information about this is to be obtained at the tourist
agency (near the swimming pool) Mountain bikers can enjoy themselves to their
hearts content, because many walks which have been set out for walkers are also
suitable for mountain bikers. It is also possible to take a ride in the mountains
on the back of a famous Haflinger horse.
Quite new is the Nordic Walking there are various possibilities to follow a
course or
either walk on your own initiative or under supervision of a guide along the
indicated routes. The people, who want to get a complete picture of all the
